Reading
Have your child read 20 minutes per night. This may include independent reading as well as reading with an adult. Please don't forget to fill out a reading log and return at the end of each month. If you need an extra log, please download it on Weaver's PTA website here. Also, don't forget to have a discussion with your child about what they read to help build their comprehension and understanding of text!
ST Fluency
The online ST Math program has two parts: Jiji and ST Fluency. The first part, Jiji, is a program designed to increase students' understanding of first grade math concepts and will primarily be completed at school; however, your child may decide to work on it at home, if desired, but it is not a required part of their nightly homework. The second part, ST Fluency, focuses on students' math fluency. The goal is to increase students' ability to quickly and accurately solve first grade math facts. Students are required to complete a one 10-minute session of ST Fluency each night for homework. Please see a description of this program and directions on how to log-in below.
The percentage recorded on your child's homework cover sheet each week is considered to be his or her progress toward MASTERING the first grade math facts. Therefore, our goal for the END OF THE YEAR is 100 percent. Students should attempt to progress about 10 percent each month. It is recommended that your child complete ST Fluency within a quiet and distraction-free environment. Your child's accuracy and speed will affect his or her overall percentage. Please make sure that if your child does not complete the level within 10 minutes, have your child continue the level anyways. Anytime a child exits an incomplete level, it will decrease his or her ST Fluency percentage. Please see the directions below for instructions on how to log in appropriately. If you have any difficulty logging in, please contact your child's teacher.
